Our Story

Sacred Systems exists within a network of wisdom keepers, guardians of the sacred fire, researchers, facilitators, and change makers.

We are grateful to all those who came before to show the way, including Thích Nhất Hạnh, Desmond Tutu, Gandhi, Wangari Maathai, Malidoma and Sobonfu Some, countless tribes of Earth Peoples who have come and gone, and multiple teachers of interbeing including but not limited to Buddhist, Sufi, Hindu, Jain and Shamanic lineages.

We also thank and honour the many teachers still with us exploring what kincentrism means in the 21st century, including Joanna Macy, Tiokasin Ghosthorse, Alice Walker, John Francis III, Barbara Smuts, Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Pat McCabe, Suzanne Simard, Dennis Martinez, Enrique Salmón, Winona LaDuke, David Abram, Martin Shaw, Paco Calvo, Bayo Akomolafe, Anna Breytenbach, adrienne marie brown, Monica Gagliano, Alexis Pauline Gumbs, Leah Penniman, James Bridle, Lyla June Johnson and Sophie Strand as well as the Matés, Shipibo and many other indigenous peoples, Maroon communities, the Ecovillage, Permaculture, Defend the Sacred, Black Feminist Thought, Queer and Decolonial movements, Local Futures, the Yaquerana and Druie rivers, several plant teachers, and many friends and more than human beings we have built close relationships with in our lives.

Sacred Systems Stewards.

She conceived the vision, and held it close. His devotion helped birth it into matter. Together, they serve life.

  • “I have arrived!!” The words reverberated through my mind's echo chambers, immediately followed by the most ecstatic purge. I was in bliss. After years of searching, acquiring knowledge and experiences, beginnings & endings, I felt: it’s enough. It’s time to start assimilating, and put all this information in service to something meaningful. 9 months (no kidding) after the ayahuasca ceremony, Sacred Systems was born.

The journey that unfolded in the 47 years preceding this moment is deeply personal - yet shared by many; and if you’re drawn to my work, I bet you can relate to some of it. It’s a story of  transformation, resilience and adaptation to an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world. The story of so many young women (and men!) growing up in a post-modern, patriarchal society, seeking meaning, wholeness, love, health, balance, belonging and a touch of magic - and not knowing where to start after finishing high school - in spite of good grades and well-meaning (but not very helpful) mentors.

Many, many degrees*, trainings, retreats, careers, community experiments, plant medicine ceremonies, burn-outs, deaths and rebirths later, I now know what I’m here to do - or rather, to be: (drumroll…) Me.

A daughter of Mother Earth. An integrated being, with a keen scientific mind, an intuitive heart, and a wild body, a drive to contribute to the changing times we live in, to be part of the solution, rather than the problem, and with a determination to revive ancient technologies, along with new ones - in service to life.
